Here’s a little info about the site name and the names of the people who have created the site.
The people
Hi! I’m JoleenG.
And I’m TonyG.
You’ll see both of us around here in the blog, forum, comments, and everywhere else.
Usually in agreement, sometimes not. ๐
I have a weird sense of humor and inject dumb comments if I think something is funny. Just ignore me.
I do … I do …
We’re not outgoing people, so sharing our names in public induces a little trauma. But people are familiar with Angie’s List, Craigs List, and many other’s like that. We figured it’s better to use our real names so people know this is really just two people here, and not some business pretending to be a family.
You’ll see my name on most of the content here. JoleenG isn’t a blogger. I’m the technical guy so I put most of the content here. I have a big mouth and I write a Lot.
You don’t wanna know how much he writes. I do a lot of research, so a lot of the content comes from me. TonyG will put it up and his name is on most of the content. But we’ll check it together before publishing.
The domain
We bought three domains, just in case there is some confusion about what the name actually is:
Nope, it’s not a dot-com. It’s a dot-live. That suffix is called a TLD, for Top Level Domain. You’re certainly familiar with .Org, .Net, .Gov, .Edu. There are hundreds of these now, like .USA, Blog, .Online, and .Me. So don’t add .Com to our address, use one of the above as you see it there.
Why three names?
That’s my doing. The idea is that if you forget the leading ‘A’ or you forget the dash after ‘A’, you’ll still find us. When you type any of the above into your browser address bar, you’ll get transferred here.
At this very moment, everything transfers to Place-To.Live but in the near future everything will transfer to A-Place-To.Live. That’s just a technical detail, not important to anyone.
Well, just me, anyway.
… as it says … not important. ๐
To be clear, we did not attempt to get the .com, and there are other sites that have similar names without dashes. Don’t let that confuse you. Please bookmark us, and tell others about us.
It might be easy to remember that there are dashes between each word?
Why “a place to live”? Well, it just seemed reasonable. The dot-live names were available. It’s short.
and TheSiteAboutOurResearchRelatedToLookingForANewHome just didn’t seem to ring any bells.
Other stuff
We changed the way the chat bubbles look. The right-alignment of the text was a little annoying in the last post. There will certainly be more of these refinements as we go…
